Circulation

Circulation System

As users we experience moving throughout spaces everyday. This path of movement can be seen as a series
of phases, at different points of movement, that link the spaces within a building.

Building Approach

The building approach is the first phase of the circulation system. It is at this point where we are preparing are
selves to experience the space that we are heading towards. One of the best building approaches that I have very experience is the walk up to the Basilique du Sacre Coeur in Paris.

 Building Entrances

This transition from outside to inside is the next phase is the circulation of the building. The entrance to the Louvre is a wonderful example of drama in the transition.

Configuration of the Path

The configuration of the path is the third stage in the circulation through the space. The movement through out the space is influenced by the organization of the path. This particular configuration is radial.

Path-Space Relationships

The relationship between path and space is can be in three ways, option one is Pass by Spaces, the second is pass through spaces and the last is terminated in a space. This plan of a cathedral in Paris shows a pass through spaces relationship.

Form of the Circulation Space

Form of the circulation space are formed by corridor, halls, galleries, stairways and rooms.

  1. Love your examples for each definitions. The garden is a great way to express the form of the circulation space. It shows you can create different forms in an aesthetically pleasing way.
